21 CPP-NPA supporters surrender
TWENTY-ONE Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army supporters in Calabarzon have surrendered to the police in Laguna, PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. said on Tuesday.
The mass surrender took place at the Biñan People’s Center in Biñan City last August 24, according to a PNP Intelligence Group report.
Two of the 21 surrenderees have been identified as members of the Samahang Magsasaka sa Barangay Imok in Calauan, Laguna.
One of the two is a 61-year-old man while the other is a 28-year old farmer/construction worker.
One of the 21surrendered a 12-gauge shotgun, a caliber .38 revolver, two ammunition and five cal. .38 bullets to the police.
The rest of the 21 are members of the Anakpawis, Bayan Muna and Gabriela.
The surrender of the 21 came following a Target Intelligence Packet provided by the Laguna Provincial Intelligence Team of the Regional Intelligence Unit 4-A, said PNP-IG director Colonel Romeo G. Macapaz.
Other officers involved in the surrender of the 21 came from the Laguna Police Provincial Office, the Police Regional Office 4-A, the Caloocan City Police Station and the National Capital Region Police Office.
Majority of the 21 claimed they joined the underground movement after being promised they would get a free house-and-lot from the government during the demolition of their shanties in 2007.
During their surrender, one of the 21 surrenderees, ‘Ka Rhea,’ led her fellows in denouncing the CPP-NPA movement.
All 21 also took their oath of allegiance to the government during the activity led by RIU4-A chief Col. Barnard Danie V. Dasugo and Laguna PPO director Col. Harold Depositar.
