ADMITTEDLY, national and local candidates and their supporters are exerting their best efforts to win the hearts and minds of the people, notably the electorate.

And as the May 9, 2022 election approaches, these politicians have to come up with various programs aimed at uplifting the living conditions of the suffering citizens.

They have to present to the electorate concrete plans of action on how to address the problems, like the COVID-19 pandemic and poverty, confronting the people.

Note that majority of Filipinos still live below the poverty line, while the dreaded and deadly COVID-19 remain a major headache in the country and the rest of the world.

Politicians ought to assure the people that, if elected, they would put in place practical programs and initiate activities designed to draw the poor into the social mainstream.

Those seeking national posts should offer a housing program which seeks to provide the many homeless and low-income workers with affordable but decent dwelling units.

Let’s not forget that the Filipino electorate, particularly the youngsters, has been moving towards political maturity, drawing cheers from various sectors of Philippine society.

“Ang ibig sabihin nito ay natutoto na ang mga botante. Tatanggapin ang pera ng isang kandidato pero iba ang iboboto pagdating ng eleksyon,” said a new registered voter.

“Ibang-iba na ngayon ang mga botante. Alam nilang baka babawiin lang ng vote-buyer ang kanyang nagastos sa eleksyon kapag naupo na siya sa gobyerno,” he added.

Hopefully, the country’s registered voters wake up to their responsibility to eradicate graft and corruption in the Philippines by electing incorruptible candidates on May 9, 2022.
