2 wanted NPA rebels fall – PNP

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. on Monday announced the capture of two wanted New People’s Army (NPAs) members during separate manhunt operations in the countryside.

He said the two who were arrested last Saturday following tips from concerned citizens.

Azurin said that one of the suspects was arrested in San Fernando City in La Union province by members of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), the La Union Police Provincial Office, San Fernando City Police Station, and the Naval Intelligence and Security Group on the strength of a warrant for two counts of murder and frustrated murder.

A local judge issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against the accused.

On the other hand, the 2nd suspect was arrested by the local police in Eastern Samar on the basis of a warrant for frustrated murder.

“We are grateful [for] the cooperation of the community who gave us leads that led to the arrest of the suspects,” Azurin said.

He said that the two were taken to local police stations for booking and detention after being apprised of their constitutional rights
