2 PPOs activated in Maguindanao

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. has announced the formal activation of the new Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte Police Provincial Offices (PPOs) during simple ceremonies held at the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) headquarters.

The event which took place in Camp Brigadier General Salipada K. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, also saw the deactivation of the now-defunct Maguindanao PPO.

“The activation of these two new PPOs manifests enduring progress in the Bangsamoro region. The challenge, therefore, is for the new PPOs and their entire teams to perform their mandate with discipline, integrity, and professionalism,” Azurin said.

The top cop expressed optimism of “better days” ahead for socio-economic development in the two new provinces which were created upon ratification of Republic Act (RA) 11550 thru a plebiscite in September 2022.

The two new PNP police provincial offices were activated as Type “C” Police Provincial Offices, and their creation were approved under National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Resolution No. 2023-0213.

Maguindanao del Sur PPO will still be based at Camp Datu Akilan Ampatuan in the capital town of Shariff Aguak. Colonel Roel R. Sermese will be the first provincial director of the new province which will be composed of 24 Municipal Police Stations (MPS).

On the other hand, Col. James E. Gulmatico was named as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Maguindanao del Norte PPO, which will have 12 MPS. It will be temporarily holding office at the PRO-BAR headquarters.

Azurin also led the blessing and inauguration of the BGen. Salipada K. Pendatun monument was erected in “honor of the brave Pendatun.”

The monument was unveiled to commemorate the life and times of Pendatun and was attended by one of his descendants, Bai Farida Pendatun Matalam.

Datu Salipada Khalid Pendatun was a Filipino lawyer, military officer, and politician who became the first Filipino-Muslim in history to hold these offices. Born in December 1912, he passed away in January 1985.
