2 POIs in Boracay tourist’s killing had criminal records — PNP official
TWO ‘persons of interest’ (POIs) in the rape and killing of a 23-year-old female tourist from Slovenia in Boracay Island have turned out to have a string of criminal records when subjected to a background check, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
Philippine National Police Public Information Office chief Col. Randulf T. Tuaño also said that a medical examination conducted on the body of victim Michaela Mickova showed that she has been sexually assaulted and had injuries to her head caused by a blunt instrument.
He also echoed the statement of Police Regional Office 6 director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky that the incident is an “isolated case” in Boracay Island and that police investigators are working overtime to give justice to the victim and her family.
One of the suspects turned out to have a case of qualified trespass to dwelling in 2015; a case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in 2016 and 2019; a case of slight physical injury in 2009; a theft case in 2007; and a case for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, said the official.
The second “POI” is facing charges for physical injury in 2011; qualified trespass to dwelling in 2015; and violation of RA 9165 in 2024.
Tuaño told the Journal Group that a third “POI” has also signified his intention to cooperate with the ongoing investigation of the case.
The official, however, refused to further elaborate to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing probe, which he said is “aimed at ensuring the certainty of conviction” for the accused.
The PNP Forensic Group conducted an autopsy on the body of the victim from Slovenia, a country in Central Europe known for its mountains, ski resorts and lakes, with the permission of her relatives.
The victim’s body was discovered around 2:19 p.m. last March 12 in an old chapel of the abandoned Pearl of the Pacific Hotel at Sitio Piaungon in Bgy. Balabag, Malay, Aklan, which is located about a kilometer away from her hotel.
An investigation showed that Mickova arrived in the world-famous island last March 1 to attend the wedding of a Filipina friend and her foreign fiancé.
