2 pedestrians killed in fatal Sto. Tomas road mishap

TWO women were killed when a van accidentally hit them and then run over by a pickup truck while crossing the pedestrian lane along Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Miguel, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas, at 1:00 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2022.

Sto. Tomas City Police Station top cop P/Lt. Col. John Erick B. Antonio identified the fatalities as Nerissa Pevidal Tan, 60, and resident of Bgy. Banahaw, and Genelyn Recaña Peñaroyo, 51, of Sitio Malusak, Bgy. Manlibunan, both in Sta. Cruz, Marinduque.

Based on the initial investigation, a Hyundai van was traversing along Maharlika Highway, coming from Bgy. San Miguel heading towards Sto. Tomas City Proper and a Toyota Hilux pickup truck were traveling in the opposite direction heading towards San Pablo City, Laguna.

The van accidentally hit the two pedestrians crossing at the said highway and dragged them, and ran them over by the incoming pickup.

As a result, both pedestrians sustained serious physical injuries in different parts of their bodies and were immediately brought by the responding rescue team of Sto. Tomas City to hospitals.

Tan was brought to St. Cabrini Hospital, Poblacion 2, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas and was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Peñaroyo sustained grave cuts and blood all over her body and was brought to Laurel Memorial Hospital at Bgy. Santor, Tanauan City, Batangas, and also pronounced dead upon arrival.

Tan’s cadaver now lies at the St. Cabrini Hospital located at Poblacion 2, Sto. Tomas City, while Peñaroyo’s remains were brought to Bayrante Funeral Homes Bgy. San Roque, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.
