2 Korean fugitives caught in Boracay

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that two Korean fugitives were arrested in the island of Boracay last August 13.

According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, officers from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) under Rendel Ryan Sy arrested Kwon Yongtae, 58, and Im Seung Il, 39, in an operation at Bgy. Balabag, Boracay Island.

Kwon is an undocumented alien and is considered a risk to public safety and security and information from Korean authorities state that he has a warrant of arrest issued in 2012 by the Seoul Bukbu District Court for fraud in violation of Korean laws.

Im, on the other hand, also has a standing warrant of arrest issued by the Uijeongbu District Court in Korea for fraud amounting to 32,000,000 Korean won or P1.3 million. An Interpol Red Notice was also issued against Im for assault last August.

Im, along with his gang members, reportedly assaulted a victim and extorted money amounting to 40 million won or P1.7 million.

Both aliens will be held temporarily in the BI’s Warden Facility in Taguig pending their deportation.
