2 Ecija convenience stores hit by robbers

CABANATUAN CITY – Twin robberies victimizing two outlets of a known convenience store occurred in separate incidents in this city and Rizal town on early Thursday morning, the Nueva Ecija Police said.

In Rizal town, suspects robbed a 7-Eleven convenience outlet fronting the municipal hall compound and the police station at 4:40 a.m., said Acting Provincial Police Chief Col. Jess B. Mendez.

Town police head Major Herbert Ocumen said the suspects were two motorcycle riders, one of whom pretended to be buying a Gatorade drink from the cashier with his other cohort serving as a lookout outside.

After approaching the counter, the suspect drew out a handgun and announced the heist, carting away P11,600 from the cashier.

Ocumen said the suspects fled on board a motorcycle towards the Rizal-Llanera Road.

In this city, robbed was another 7-Eleven convenience outlet located along the Maharlika Highway opposite the main entrance of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology campus in Bgy. Sumacab Este, said Lt. Col. Carl Omar Fiel, city police head.

The robbery was perpetrated at 4:39 a.m. by a lone suspect who casually approached the counter area, threatened the two cashiers on duty at gunpoint, and declared the hold-up.

The suspect took away P12,000 in cash.

Fiel said the unidentified suspect fled on board a Yamaha Sniper motorcycle in the direction of Bgy. Hermogenes Concepcion.

Police are still investigating the robberies.
