2 die, several passengers injured in Batangas mishap

A WIDOW and a jobless man died when the Nissan NV they were riding in accidentally collided with a trailer truck loaded with scrap metals along a highway over the weekend in Bgy. Aga, Nasugbu, Batangas.

Nasugbu town police investigators Cpl. Ronnie Glenn C. Bagsic and Pat. Paul Wally M. Oronico identified the fatalities as Nelly Rivera, 86, widow and Alex Rivera, 61 married, both residents of Pulang Lupa II, Las Piñas City.

The injured passengers were identified as Pedro Leo Romanillos, 55, construction supervisor, Jane Romanillos, 51, customer assistant, Hanz Andrei Leo Romanillos, 19, student, Jaime Hadrian Chan, 16, student, Alhron Hadrielle Chan, one-year-old and three months, Christian Leo Romanillos, 24, systems engineer and Cherry Quimada, 45, nanny, all residents of Pulang Lupa II,p.

The suspect now in police custody was identified as Virgilio Espinosa Jr., 30, and a resident of Phase 9, 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.

Case investigator P/Cpl Ronnie Glenn C. Bagsic and Pat. Paul Wally M. Oronico, gathered that around 9:30 a.m., a Shackman trailer (NBD 9300) driven by Espinosa Jr. collided with a Nissan NV 350 (NCU 5698) driven by Mickie Bersaba, 30, of 19 Dalandan St., Pamplona Uno, Las Piñas City.

The trailer was loaded with two 20-footer containers containing metal scraps registered to GPS Trucking Services with business address at Bangera St., Fishport, Navotas City and came from Navotas City. It was headed towards Calaca when the accident occurred.

The van was coming from Las Piñas City bound forCalatagan town. It had nine passengers.

After the collision, the truck trailer bed tilted and almost hit the Toyota Avanza (DCQ 9077) driven by Lara Jill Bermal of Villa Mariquita Subdivision, Barangay Lumbangan, Nasugbu, Batangas.

The Riveras died due to fatal injuries.

The driver and seven passengers sustained deep cuts and abrasions in different parts of the body. Four of them were brought to the Apacible Memorial District Hospital and Jabez Medical Center for medical treatment.

Bermal was not injured during the accident.
