
2 Chinese nabbed for medical malpractice
TWO Chinese nationals engaged in the illegal practice of medicine were arrested in Parañaque City, Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, Major General Nicolas D. Torre III said on Thursday.
The official said the arrest of the two was part of their intensified operation against all fraudulent and illegal activities including the illegal practice of medicine as ordered by PNP Chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil.
At around 3 p.m. Tuesday, he said members of the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit conducted the operation at Unit B-45 located on the 10th floor of Tower B, Imperial Plaza Residence in Parañaque City which led to the arrest of the two foreigners.
Maj. Gen. Torre identified the two as ‘Huan’ and ‘Jian,’ occupants on the 10th Floor, of Unit B45, Tower B, of the Imperial Plaza Residence, in Bgy. Tambo, Paraňaque City.
The operation stemmed from a complaint that the suspects were engaged in manufacturing, selling, offering for sale, or transferring any food, drug, device, or cosmetic that was adulterated or misbranded and an illegal practice of medicine.
Confiscated from the suspects were numerous boxes of assorted medicines and drugs, medical supplies and equipment, infusion alarm, surgical instruments, one laptop used as an Ultrasound Diagnostic System, notebooks of medical procedures, and Chinese prescription receipts.
`The two Chinese nationals failed to provide licenses and permits required to dispense medical products, operate a medical clinic, or practice medicine in the country.
They were charged with violation of Republic Act 3720 as amended by RA 9711 or The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2029 and Section 10 of RA 4224 or An Act To Amend Certain Sections of RA 2382 otherwise known as The Medical Act of 1959 which penalizes illegal practice of medicine.
Maj. Gen. Torre said his men launched the sting in coordination with the PNP Health Service and Forensic Group, the Parañaque City Police Station, and the local government.
