AUTHORITIES arrested two suspected car thieves with the help of the global positioning system (GPS) device installed on the stolen vehicle.

The two male suspects, aged 22 and 23, were both residents of Tondo, Manila.

A report from the Novaliches Police Station (PS) 4 showed that at about 9:00 p.m., May 19, 2023, the suspects rented a red Toyota Innova van owned by a female victim.

The victim instructed the suspects to proceed to Barangay Veragara, Mandaluyong City, to look for her trusted car rental services partner.

The rental agreement was P3,000 per day, which the suspects initially paid, and the van was to be returned on June 4, 2023.

However, the victim and her business partner noticed the GPS installed in the Toyota Innova showed “unusual movement.” They contacted the suspects and demanded to return the vehicle on the agreed date but failed to do so.

The two victims proceeded to locate the GPS location of the van, which was found in Bgy. Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City, and discovered that the original plate number was replaced with another one.

They immediately reported the incident to PS-4, which conducted a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of the suspects at Camba St., Tondo, Manila.

During the confrontation, the suspects informed the operatives that the vehicle was in possession of a certain “Salve De Vera,” who allegedly borrowed the said vehicle.

A thorough investigation is being conducted to locate and identify De Vera.

The suspects will be charged for violation of RA (Republic Act) 10883 or the Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

“Walang pinipiling oras ang serbisyo publiko ng mga kapulisan sa QCPD. Torre III said as he lauded the PS-4 personnel in responding in the said incident.
