ZAMBALES Police Provincial Office director Colonel Romano V. Cardiño on Friday announced the arrest of two brothers wanted for nearly killing their own grandfather in Palauig municipality in 2003 over a bitter land dispute.

In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brigadier General Valeriano T. de Leon, the official identified the two as Roger Reyes and his brother Rene Boy, both tagged as among the most wanted persons in Zambales.

Cardiño said a team of Zambales policemen led by Lieutenant Jessu Rendon arrested the two suspects after 18 years in hiding. Roger is a resident of Sitio Bunglo in Bgy. Pinagrealan, Candelaria while his brother is residing in Bgy. Luis, also located in the same municipality.

He said the suspects are the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder and frustrated murder issued by Judge Nicolas Eliazo Jr. of the Iba Regional Trial Court Branch 71. The warrants were issued in connection with the killing of one Michael Villanueva in Sitio Luan in Bgy. Lipay, Palauig last February 21 and the wounding of the two’s grandfather in 2003.

Cardiño said that in 2003, the two brothers and their grandfather Johnny Duave – actually their mother’s father – figured in a heated argument after the old man ordered the two to vacate his property in Purok Ilang-Ilang, Bgy. Bulawen.

At the height of their altercation, the two attacked the victim with their knives before fleeing.

The official said Roger was the first to be arrested in Bgy. Pinagrealan past 6 p.m. Tuesday. Two hours later, officers arrested Rene Boy after he was found spying in front of the Palauig police station.
