2 armed men killed in clash with cops in Rizal
TWO suspected members of a robbery-holdup gang preying on online sellers of gold and other jewelry items in Rizal province were killed in a shootout with undercover officers of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) who tried to arrest them in an entrapment operation inside a resort in Angono municipality shortly after Monday noon.
A third suspect identified as Patrick Almaan, 24, a resident of Manuela Subdivision in Meycauayan City, Bulacan was arrested during the operation inside Cidnyland Resort in Sitio Sakura, Bgy. Mahabang Parang in Angono municipality around 12:25 p.m. Monday, said PNP-CIDG director Brig. Gen. Nicolas D. Torre III.
The official reported to PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil that the CIDG Rizal Provincial Field Unit, joined by the Rizal Provincial Intelligence Team and the Angono Municipal Police Station, conducted the operation following a complaint from two jewelry sellers from Sampaloc, Manila.
With the help of the two, the CIDG Rizal PFU spearheaded the entrapment, which turned awry when the two suspects sensed they were being entrapped and engaged the officers in a shootout.
Two loaded handguns were recovered from the slain suspects.
The Rizal Provincial Forensic Unit rushed to the site to conduct a scene-of-the-crime investigation.
