18 rebels, supporters yield to C. Luzon PNP

EIGHTEEN members and supporters of the New People’s Army in Central Luzon surrendered to local police authorities last week to avail of government programs that will help them return to the mainstream of the society, Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Jean S. Fajardo announced on Sunday.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, the official said the surrender of the 18 dealt another major blow to the insurgency movement in Central Luzon.

“”We continue to make significant progress in our campaign against communist insurgency with multiple individuals voluntarily surrendering and renouncing support for the CPP-NPA-NDF and its allied organizations,” Brig. Gen. Fajardo said.

She said that one of the 18 identified only as alias ‘LJ, a former member of the NPA’s Iskwad Tersera Bagong Hukbong Bayan turned himself over to officers of the Aurora 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company in Baler municipality last Wednesday. He also surrendered a caliber .38 revolver to the local police.

On the same day, two others identified as alias ‘Dencio’ and ‘Neil’ surrendered to the Bataan 1st PMFC. The two who were also tagged as members of the Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Bataan also turned over a cal. .22 rifle to the police.

On Thursday, one ‘Ka Ramon’ surrendered to the local police in Olongapo City and turned over an improvised shotgun and a fragmentation grenade. “His reintegration process is being facilitated, with financial assistance provided to aid his return to a peaceful life,” said Brig. Gen. Fajardo.

Another identified as ‘Ka Estong’ surrendered to the police in Nueva Ecija on the samev day and yielded a home-made cal. .38 revolver.

Two others identified as ‘Ka Tets’ and ‘Enteng’ also surrendered to the Bulacan police last Tuesday and Thursday respectively. The two also turned in a cal. .38 revolver and a 9mm pistol with several live ammunition to the police.

Last Friday, one ‘Ka Roma,’ a former member of the NPA’s Lino Blas Command surrendered to the police in Limay, Bataan. The rebel also surrendered an improvised 12-gauge shotgun and several explosive materials and live ammunition to the local police.

Brig. Gen. Fajardo said that seven members of the Liga ng Manggagawang Bukid in Guimba, Nueva Ecija and five members of the Alyansa ng Mamamayang Nagkakaisa in Laur municipality renounced their support to NPA-linked organizations.

The Central Luzon police director commended the collaboration of police units and local communities in achieving these successes even as she urged remaining insurgents in the region to leave their activities behind and rebuild their lives. “

These yields highlight our relentless efforts to end violence and foster peace in Central Luzon. We encourage others to embrace the government’s reintegration programs and choose a peaceful, productive path,” she said.

Brig. Gen. Fajardo also said that these achievements underscore the success of the government’s Oplan Balik-Loob program which provides financial aid, livelihood support and reintegration services to former rebels while advancing efforts to end local insurgency and promote peace and development in Central Luzon.
