AT least 160 families were rendered homeless in a fire that hit residential houses in two areas Monday before dawn in Parañaque City, a day after Christmas.

Parañaque Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire of still undetermined origin started at around 3:09 a.m. in Tramo 1, Barangay San Dionisio, and quickly spread in nearby houses.

At about 3:51 a.m., Parañaque Fire Marshal Supt. Bernardo Rosete raised the fire to the 5th alarm, and since the houses in the area were made up of light materials, the flames spread up to Tramo 2 before it was put under control at around 6:14 a.m.

A fire volunteer, identified as Roel Cipriano, 39, of Hagonoy-Taguig Fire Volunteers Brigade, was rushed to Philippine General Hospital (PGH) after he sustained multiple open fractures on his right hand when he fell from the roof while extinguishing the blaze while another male resident in the area, according to Kagawad Miling Santos of Bgy. San Dionisio, in a phone interview, suffered a cut on his right hand when a glass he was carrying slipped from his hands.

The BFP said no deaths were reported until the fire that gutted 100 houses was finally put out at around 7:09 a.m., damaging an estimated P400,000 worth of properties.

Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire, while affected families temporarily stay in Bgy. San Dionisio gym.
