A TOTAL of 14, 552 out of 48,689 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in Bureau of Corrections-supervised prison facilities have received their first shot of vaccine against COVID-19 as of October 29.
Of the 14, 552 PDLs, 3, 578 were fully-vaccinated, BuCor said in a single-page document sent to reporters on Sunday.
Majority of those vaccinated came from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City BuCor continued.
On the other hand, the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan has not started its vaccination program just yet.
Apart from NBP and Iwahig, the other BuCor prisons are the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Oriental Mindoro, Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Davao del Norte, and Leyte Regional Prison in Southern Leyte.
BuCor is an attached agency of the Department of Justice. Under the law, the DOJ has administrative supervision of BuCor and has “the power to review, reverse, revise or modify the decisions of the BuCor in the exercise of its regulatory or quasi-judicial functions.”
