ONE hundred fourteen out of 151 cargo trucks were apprehended by inter-government agency authorities for violating the Anti-Overloading Law over the weekend, a ranking Land Transportation Office (LTO) official revealed.

Lawyer Clarence V. Guinto, Director of the LTO-Law Enforcement Service, in an interview said the apprehended drivers were issued citation tickets and would undergo seminars on proper observance of traffic rules and regulations.

Guinto said the operation against overloading cargo trucks was implemented under the strict guidance of Assistant Secretary and LTO Chief Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III.

“Eto na nga ang resulta, halos 85% ng mga trucks overloaded habang bumibiyahe, at dangerous eto. We are strongly sending a message to all truck operators, and drivers with the strict orders of Assec. Guadiz that we will run after you to ensure the safety of the public, particularly motorists and pedestrians doing their jobs overnight,”said Guinto.

Majority of the trucks were apprehended at the exit and entrance points of Metro Manila, said Guinto.

According to a report, many bloody vehicular accidents have involved overloading trucks.

“Kaya lahat ito, kahit gabi hanggang umaga nandito ang inyong mga Inter-Government Agency authorities para sa kaligtasan ng lahat sa utos ni Assec. Guadiz,” said Guinto.
