10 family members killed in Munti fire

DEATH knocked on the Ladia family’s door at 9:02 a.m. Sunday in Muntinlupa City. Hungry flames engulfed the house and quickly devoured 10 family members, including a five-month-old baby. At 10:25 a.m. The victims’ charred bodies were found scattered on the ground and second floors. It was a tragic nightmare before Christmas.

The fire broke out at the Ladia family’shouse Sunday morning in Barangay Putatan, Muntinlupa City.

Muntinlupa City City Fire Marshall Superintendent Eugene Briones said the bodies of Jerome, 65, Gil, 68, Cherry, 39, Mark Gil, 39, Ana, 33, Amentues, 16, Leandro Jose, 15, Emmanuel, 12, Claire and Cherise, all with surname Ladia, were found at the ground floor and at the second floor of their house located at 2801 Labraf St. Vivora Compound, Bruger St. Brgy. Putatan.

It is not yet known who between Claire and Cherise was only five-month old.

Muntinlupa City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at the house owned by Vigil Ladia at around 9:02 a.m. before it was declared under control at 9:25 a.m. and was finally put out at 10:25 a.m.

Arson probers said the fire affected only the Ladia’s house due to the quick response of firefighters.

Supt. Briones in a radio interview said the victims were probably asleep and were trapped inside when the fire broke out.

Arson investigators have yet to determine what could have caused the fire while estimated damage to property was pegged at P500,000.
